The most comfortable way to carry your canoe or kayak and your gear! Portaging Systems, Dry Bags, Freighter Frames, Waterproof Backpacks, Shoulder Yokes

Knu-Pack Portaging SystemThe words "comfort" and "portage" are rarely ever used in the same sentence... until now. The patented Knu-Pac system integrates the carrying ability and comfort of an external backpack frame with a 100% waterproof bag to allow you to carry both your canoe or kayak and/or your gear with more comfort than you can imagine. Full visibility, improved body posture, increased maneuverability and, best of all, the weight is carried by the larger, stronger muscles of your legs and not your aching shoulders. The unique cradles support virtually any size canoe or kayak at the balance point and allow for easy loading and unloading. Our universal thwart allows any solo canoe or kayak to be carried with the Knu-Pac with a simple clamping system. Now you can carry your kayak anywhere!

Comfort and Ergonomics - The weight of your boat and gear is transferred from your shoulders to your hips taking the pressure off those already tired shoulder muscles. Spinal compression, which affects 80% of people over 50 years of age, is minimized since the weight is carried at the base of the spinal column, not at the top. Lower back strain is reduced as you now stand with a straight spine. An open chest and belly allow you to breathe freely. You control your boat with your arms in a relaxed position down at your sides allowing your paddling muscles to renew themselves during the portage.

"The more weight on your back, the more you stoop as you hike. For every 5 degrees you tilt your neck and lean forward, you put an additional 10 pounds of stress on the discs in your back, increasing your chances of back and knee injuries." Backpacker Magazine December 2002.

Efficiency - Being able to carry more weight, with comfort, enables more paddlers to single carry creating additional time on the water and less time swatting 'skeeters on the portage trail. If single carries aren't your thing, use the Knu-Pac System on each trip and see how much more energy you have to paddle.

Visibility - Imagine being able to see all around you while you carry a canoe or kayak. Now you can. Increase your pure enjoyment and your safety.

100% Waterproof - The electronically welded seams and the rolldown closure of the large open bag, either top or side loading design, ensures that your gear stays dry in any conditions. Wet gear in the wilderness is not only a pain, it's potentially dangerous.

Versatility- The bag can be detached quickly from the frame allowing you to use the frame to carry the canoe and the bag separately for double carries. Use two Knu-Pacs to carry larger canoes and even jon boats. Use the frame alone on day trips. Attach the bottom shelf and carry your fishing gear, barrel, wannigan, pelican box or whatever, while you also carry your boat. And with the optional extender bar in place, the Knu-Pac becomes a 100% waterproof, top loading backpack. Your gear will stay dry even if you're hiking in a rain forest! We use the bags alone as tough, waterproof duffle bags when we fly.

Control - Carrying a canoe or kayak with the Knu-Pac System is like carrying a teeter-totter. Create a well balanced teeter-totter with your boat and it's easy to maintain it at any angle you wish using the control line with both of your arms in a relaxed position down at your side. Pivot your boat so that it's parallel to the grade of the trail, elimanting the danger of dragging the stern on downhill sections
