Knu-Pac Portaging System - Testimonials"After several test trips last spring and summer, I'm convinced that two-trip portages are a thing of the past. For the first time I could haul my camping gear and canoe simultaneously, without bruising my shoulders or staggering under the ever-shifting load. No more pinched nerves from resting the thwart on your shoulders, no more obstructed views, no more swaying or bouncing. Bottom line: A sturdy, watertight load-hauler that takes the pain out of portaging." Jon Dorn, Editor, BackpackerMagazine (Dec '98 issue) "... thanks to the new pack, we did each one (portage) in just a single jump. That was nothing short of amazing to us, though we were at first too tired to appreciate it. But as I look back on the trip, all aspects of our portaging and gear-carrying were simplified by the pack. My thanks to you for enabling us to make possible a trip to a region that otherwise would have been much more cumbersome - if not downright impossible - for us to reach!" T.Lougheed, Ottawa, Ontario "You've spoiled me. I like your pack so much it makes me see the weaknesses/faults in some of my other canoe camping gear." G.M. Dunn Loring, VA "I took my first BWCA trip with the Knu-Pac frame last week. 6 portages each way, including a couple at 50 and one at 105 rods. For the first time in 8 years of BWCA tripping, my neck and shoulders did not hurt, I was able to sleep well, and my party single portaged every time. I was amazed at the function of the Knu-Pac Frame. If you ever want a testimonial, I'm your man." M.K. St Paul, MN "My son and I just returned from six days in the Boundary Waters. We both carried Knu-Pac II's for the first time. What a wonderful improvement over last year when we had to double portage everything, every time! This year,we packed all our clothes, spare shoes, gear, food, etc. into those two packs and elected to carry a small, hand held drybag for my camera. We single portaged everything over some pretty hairy portages including a 320 rod portage into Iron Lake and a couple of 100+ portages along the way. At 50, I actually carried the lighter pack and canoe more than 1/2 mile on the one portage! We kept questioning how in the world we ever made it through last year's trip." T.O. Aurora, IL "The Knu-Pacs worked great in Alaska. It was amazing to see both the amount of time and energy saved on portages. All in all, I was very pleased. The frames are extremely comfortable carrying heavy pack loads and seemed to be very durable. We can't wait to use them again this summer." Jim Lustig, Outdoor Programs Coordinator 2 Aztec Adventures Outdoor Program "Paul Jaimeson makes a remark in his book about eliminating the double carries by packing light (one pack for two people) suggesting that one person carries the pack and the other carries the canoe. I couldn't agree more! In an area like this (the Adirondacks), with so many carries, it sure is nice to be able to keep going forward. And to do it without killing yourself. However, my experience says that it is nearly impossible for one person to carry the combined gear of two people plus the camp gear and food no matter how light you pack; especially for anything longer than an "overnighter". I've just started using the Knu-Pac Portaging System and this invention is the greatest thing since pit privies! Not only does it make the trip/carry quicker but there is no more sore neck and shoulders from having the thwart rubbing against my neck. The weight is distributed to the hips which makes it feel much lighter. No strain and less fatigue! Yessss! I strongly recommend the Knu-Pac for any canoe camper. Adirondack Willy (Bill Pratt) "Anything that shifts the weight to the pelvis is a good thing." Dr.Charles V. Burton, MD., neurosurgeon and Sr. Medical Director, ""Most of the weight is held by the larger, stronger muscles, which is where it ought to be." Steven Marshall, LMT, national sports massage instructor "If you're going any distance at all, there's no reason not to use the Knu-Pac!" Marko Schmale, Whitewater Challengers, Inc. "In the what-we did-on-our-summer-vacation category this year, we took our wilderness experiences to new heights, or rather new latitudes. We drove some 2000 km to the Woodland Caribou wilderness park in northwestern Ontario within spitting distance of Manitoba. The portages are extremely rugged, almost primitive, and the enclosed photograph shows me negotiating one of the less pleasant ones which consisted almost entirely of these boulders that had to be danced along, mountain-goat style. I simply could not have done the job without the Knu-pack. the control line was crucial as I was constantly raising or lowering one end or the other as I went along these portages. It would have been all but impossible to do so with a traditional system." T.L. "I like that someone has finally addressed the concerns that many canoeists have, being able to see where you're going, feel in control of the canoe at all times when portaging and portaging with arms at one's sides in a "relaxed" position. It's much safer, and more comfortable. "One trip" portages are the best!" J.S. Duluth, MN "Just returned from a 2 week trip to Woodland Caribou Park in Ontario. We covered about 250 miles and 80 portages. I had the pack at 45lbs and my canoe at 55lbs and could do things I could never have done with my previous canpe/pack combined at this weight." David M. "Eric and Nita, thanks for the note! I hope you enjoyed the show; it is interesting; still lots of fans come out and talk when I go out. I expect to work on the production of Mole III, and will likely have a cameo role on one of the shows. As I hope I mentioned, I loved the back pack for the rest of my hike Appalacian Trail), and will use it on the last 536 miles next summer; in fact, I am forwarding your message on to a friend who was a through hiker in 2000 who wanted the information. Take care!" Bill McDaniel (the mole on Mole II) "I have tried the Knu Pac on some canoe trips including a 3 mile portage in Algonquin and numerous portages in Quebec. I love it!! It functioned flawlessly and I was able to go through portages in half the time. Great product and a necessity for wilderness canoeing." Ernst Eichel Strongsville, OH "I've used the pack all summer (under a more conventional tandem sized stripper canoe, as well as with a solo Hornbeck), and I love it. I teach a wilderness guide training program (Voyageurs) for the Boy Scout National Camping School, and am a licensed Adirondack guide myself. A new canoeing partner of mine just this week placed an order for his Knupac, and no telling how many other people over the summer have as well, after seeing me in mine and inquiring where I got it. This system works well." Paul Repak Adirondack Guide "I am so happy with my canoe carrier....I just finished an 8 day grueling trip with a group of 17 yr. old students. We traveled through Temagami and Lady Evelyn up here in Ontario. The longest portage is 5000 meters in mud and muck. Everyone was so impressed on how easy it makes canoe carrying. I let anyone interested know where I got my canoe pack." Basilio Ellarmo, Toronto "I have used the rack on both my kayak and my canoe and found it every good as you told me it would be and I am looking forward to this next trip to the BWCA as the portaging will be cut in half. " Jon Rasmussen, Apple Valley, MN "I am 5'1" and 115 pound and love the outdoors. For over 25 years I have gone to the BWCA in MN and have portaged my heavy canoe. A few years ago I was in a car accident and was not able to portage such a heavy canoe. I then purchased a light weight (50 pounds) and my neck was still not able to handle the weight. I was so happy to discover the Knupac system! This past summer I have portaged well over 200 rods at one time without any problem. There is no weight on my shoulders and neck. It is easy to balance, and as a great bonus you can see in front of you very well. (Not to mention the misquitos don't swarm your head and loom in the upside down canoe and now I have free hands to slap those creatures.) Wherever I go on the trails, people stop me and ask a lot of questions. It is especially great for women! I call it the equalizer. I also know that I could portage a heavy canoe with this pack too if I needed to. The Knudsens were very responsive to my emails and I received my pack in record time. I would recommend the Knupac and their water proof packs to anyone! Thanks!" Pamela Nygren-Olson, Corcoran, MN "I met you guys at the Adirondack Paddlefest this past May and bought an EZ Tripper with a framesheet. I've done a couple trips since and I want to tell you how much I like the pack. It really has made a huge difference in the least favorite part of any canoe excursion. I load it up for two people and have my hands free for other gear or the canoe and have none of the fatigue associated with other packs. You have a great product that shows you know what you're talking about. I wish you great success. " Alex Fiato |
